About Dr. Gajaweera
Dr. Ashanthi Gajaweera is a board certified neurologist who is passionate about the importance of neurologic health being the cornerstone of maintaining a long and robust healthspan. With over 25 years of clinical experience she leads Healthspan Neurology, PC with one primary mission, to optimize her patient’s wellbeing.
Dr. Gajaweera started her educational journey thinking she was going to be mechanical engineer but, in spite of a bachelors degree from MIT and a love for analytical thinking and data, she changed course when she realized that personal connection was what inspired her the most. She started medical school driven by a curiosity for the human condition and seeing medicine as the ultimate way to truly understand it. She soon fell in love with neurology and has never looked back.
As a neurologist she remains fascinated by the elegant complexity of the nervous system but also appreciates the tremendous suffering its afflictions can cause. She believes a neurologist’s role should be to optimize neurologic wellbeing and resilience, not just manage disease. Understanding that that the state of our nervous system is how we interpret the world, she has spent the last 15 years exploring and training in practices outside the conventional, including ayurveda, yoga, acupuncture and mind body medicine.
In 2022 she stumbled upon a podcast by Peter Attia, MD and was instantly hooked on the concept of Medicine 3.0. — a paradigm shift in medical care which emphasizes a proactive, personalized, data-driven approach to health optimization — a concept that meshed perfectly with her analytic mind, her desire to optimally serve her patients, as well as her keen understanding that modern medicine is often missing the mark.
Dr. Gajaweera has never been more excited to be a neurologist, particularly in the focus on Dementia Prevention. She is eager to continue to keep learning with her patients as she shares her decades of clinical experience, love for data and technology and her willingness to think outside the box. She aims to be an astute investigator, motivated by her fascination with neurology as well as the human condition, bringing compassion and curiosity to each patient encounter.
